Replacing the roof slates and lead flashing on a 6-storey central London property. The building is located on one of the city’s busiest ‘red routes’. An urgent, cost effective solution was needed to avoid costly water damage to offices below.
STQ Vantage was already engaged by the property’s facilities manager to inspect and test the building’s safety line fall arrest systems. As a result, we already knew the roof construction and terrain.
Following a quick survey, STQ was able to propose a cost effective rope access solution. Accessing the building roof and sides through abseiling, enabled slates and flashing to be replaced without difficulty.
Since traffic on the street prevented the use of any powered access equipment, the only alternative considered by the facilities manager was scaffolding. In comparison, STQ’s rope access approach enabled him to save a staggering £28,000 on the cost of rectification work at height.
One of our advisors met the client on site. The project was to build a high-rise residential block on central london in Embassy Gardens. At short notice the client needed the design of a bespoke rope access system for the ongoing maintenance of the building facade and window cleaning. Unfortunately, there were no off-the-shelf products on the market so a quick but effective solution was required.
Following a prompt return visit to site the details were discussed and the survey was completed. Through a combination of heavy duty, bespoke steel baseplates, upstands and davits capable of withstanding rope access loads, a proposal was provided.
With minimal fuss the products were manufactured and promptly delivered to site, ready for securing to the roof structure. The client was very pleased with the outcome, and thankful for a hassle-free experience.
